Low Fat Meal Ideas – Value of Low Fat Cookery Options for Weight Loss

It looks like that every few years a new diet plan comes along. It’s not hard to forget that it was only about a decade ago when pasta was considered healthy – it is even was recommended product for athletes and they were told to ‘load up’ on carbohydrates such as pasta before a big race or sporting event!

This advice looks ridiculous today and we can understand that but the low fat approach to eating and weight loss deserves a second look. It is a common knowledge that there are lots of harmful types of fat out there like the ‘trans fats’ that are in many snack foods, and we try to avoid foods that are high in saturated fat or cholesterol. Medical researches proved that eating low fat is better for heart health.

Susan Powter, well known fitness guru, lost more than a hundred pounds using a low fat approach to eating coupled with a lot of exercise. She said that she eats about 3000 calories a day – much more than you would eat on any diet plan and about a third more than is recommended for a woman – but she maintains her slim, fit physique. How so? It has simple explanation – she eats no foods that deliver more than 30% of their calories in the form of fat. Is this theory worth of living?

This theory is a bit controversial, because according to her plan, you could eat plates of bread and pasta all day long on the basis that they don’t have much fat. However, everybody knows that this is not the best idea since if you’re eating bread or pasta that’s made from white rather than whole wheat flour. And the second point is that these foods fill you up without giving you much nutritional value, which is a serious problem in and of itself. Also, simple carbohydrates might provoke an insulin response which as has been proven leads to lead to weight gain your, particularly around the stomach, where it puts you at risk for diabetes and heart disease because it raise body’s glycemic level.

So the main idea is to limit fat but to make wiser carbohydrate choices as well. Many nutritionists recommend whole grains, as the best type of food. Thus if you replace your white bread, rice and pasta with whole grain versions, that might be the best idea of all. You will get all the benefit of a tasty, low-fat diet with added nutrition because the fiber in these foods will help you feel fuller.

So is it possible to lose weight and eat 3000 calories a day? It is doubtful a bit unless you’re exceptionally active – that’s a lot of calories. There is no need to stop eating while you are still feel hunger but it is important to understand that you can have all your favorite foods, but the low fat version of them. Of course, you can eat popcorn, but don’t slather it in butter. Instead, you might add great taste by sprinkling a little soy sauce on your popcorn, and that makes it less dry as well. Surely you can have pizza, but you should make it yourself and put about half the cheese on it than you would otherwise have done. You won’t even notice that there’s less cheese if the cheese you do use is a quality product and has a lot of flavor.

You should have a closer look to fruits and vegetables because they can really help adhere to this eating plan. It is even really possible that if you are eating a lot of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, you will not notice that this is not that kind miss of food that you`re used to. Think about it because there may be no reason at all to use high fat products because the supermarket shelves can offer you many many lower fat alternatives!
